You'll start the program with a short assessment to establish your baseline knowledge. There's nothing else you need to do to prepare for the program.

Law is knowledge work. It's true that a lot of what your clients value comes from what goes on inside your head…but everything outside your head is a process. And every one of those processes can be managed - including the most complex legal matters.

In this module, we’re going to introduce you to the key concepts of legal project management and introduce core tools.

Because this is a practical course, you're going select one project or legal matter. 

Over the next few weeks, you're going to apply what you've learned, step-by-step, to managing that kind of legal matter or project.

In this module, you will learn the foundational skills of legal project management:

• scoping matters
• identifying assumptions, and
• creating project charters. 

Then, you'll have the week to apply these skills to the project or matter you select.

The next stage in Legal Project Management is planning the work.

In this session, you'll learn how to break work down, allocate the correct resources, identify and manage risk, create schedules, use project management platforms, and more.

You'll also learn about the importance of stakeholder analysis and communications strategies to the overall success of your projects.

Now the work begins on your legal matter. In this session, you'll learn key tools to help you manage task execution, including visual matter management strategies that make it much easier to monitor work.

As legal work progresses, scope changes are inevitable. Risks will also change. In this session, we'll cover strategies for managing both scope and risk changes.

The work doesn't end when the legal work is finished. In this session, we'll review the steps you need to take at the end of a matter to ensure the file is closed and billed quickly, and you capture the knowledge you've gained.

Topics include how to run effective after-action reviews, how to capture and act on lessons learned, and how to create a library of project and matter plans you can use over and over again. 

The previous sessions have provided  the foundational skills you need to apply legal project management in your organization. 

In this final session, we'll discuss how to integrate legal project management with process improvement and pricing initiatives in your organization.

Specifically, we’ll introduce you to the IILPM frameworks that provide a foundation for overall legal matter management.

In this session, participants will also present their projects to the group. This is your chance to demonstrate how you'll apply legal project management to the project or matter type you selected in Week 1.

By now, you'll know how to integrate and apply the project management tools to legal work in your organization. 

You'll take a final assessment to reset your knowledge baseline and we'll confirm the final administrative steps required to complete your certification as a Legal Project Professional under the auspices of the IILPM.

Implementation is the key to your success. After the course, we will provide coaching and advice to ensure you're able to implement your new project management skills. 

We'll answer any questions you have, discuss the challenges you've encountered, and ensure you know what you need to do next to complete your project successfully.
