Although you’re great at what you do, chances are your practice isn’t running as smoothly as it could…and you know it. Everyday tasks take too long or seem too complicated. What's more, you’re working long hours in a practice that isn’t generating the revenue you envisioned. It’s a stressful dynamic that affects your morale and your productivity.

Want to watch this tip instead?

Welcome to Gimbal’s Tip of the Week, where you get practical, actionable advice you can use right away to start building a more productive and profitable legal practice.

You know there has to be a better way, but you’re just too busy to figure it out, right? Well, recognizing that you need help to determine what has to change in your practice is a great place to start. Once you figure that out, the next step is to find someone who can give you that help, keep you accountable, and make sure your practice is on track to deliver the personal satisfaction, profitability, and freedom you need.

So this week’s tip is to hire a coach.

Yes. A coach. A coach responds to your issues in real time and helps you to solve them.

A coach makes YOU better at what YOU do.

A coach doesn’t have to be an expert in your practice area, or the best lawyer in the country. Actually, your coach doesn’t even have to be better than you.

Think about the most talented athletes…and now think about their coaches. A great track & field coach can’t run the 200-meter faster than Andre De Grasse. A great hockey coach can’t score more goals than Hayley Wickenheiser. But great coaches have helped them become their very best.

How? Because coaches understand the tools, frameworks, and proven methodologies that help people improve their performance, and know how to hold people accountable for their own development. It’s the same for your legal practice. Most businesses and business owners have similar problems. You need someone who understands you and your goals, and can provide you with the tools, frameworks, and methodologies to achieve them.

Here’s your action item: Identify the areas where you can use a little coaching in your practice and make a list. It may be streamlining your practice, developing efficient workflows, improving your business development or your leadership skills, creating effective marketing, or becoming a great communicator.

Don’t let the process overwhelm you. We’ve got a free assessment that will help you choose the top areas. You can start there, and your coach will be able to guide you along the way.

From our experience, we know that legal professionals who hire a coach receive personalized assistance to improve their practices, find more time in their schedules, and stay on track with their goals. Put simply, they can run their law firm businesses more smoothly, generate more revenue, and deliver more value to their clients.
