Make the Shift: The 3-Line Decision Snapshot
Feb 09, 2026When a decision feels uncomfortable, the instinct is to gather more information.
Before you do, take two minutes and write a short “decision snapshot.” Answer these three questions:
- What decision am I trying to make? (Keep this brief. One sentence is often enough.)
- What do I already know that materially affects the answer?
- What is the one piece of information that would actually change my decision if I had it?
Now pause.
If you can’t identify that missing piece of information, more searching probably won’t help. At that point, the decision likely depends on exercising your judgment based on what you already know.
If you can identify the missing piece of information, go get just that. Then reassess whether you now have the right information to make an informed, reasoned decision.
This isn’t about doing more. It’s about thinking differently about what matters most.
