A simple question that reveals where your time is really going
Jan 06, 2026
If you’re feeling stretched, the problem usually isn’t effort. It’s misalignment.
Set aside 15 uninterrupted minutes and answer this question honestly, in writing:
What am I spending time on each week that someone else could do at least 80% as well as I can?
Don’t overthink it. You don’t need to have a solution at this point. You just need to notice where your effort is going.
When you’re done, underline the one item that drains the most energy or attention. That’s where value is leaking. Not because the work is unimportant—someone has to do it—but because it’s pulling you away from your Power Zone, away from decisions and work that only you can do.
You don’t need to fix it today. Just start your list of the things that someone else can do. If you've got someone to delegate to now, great! If not, build your list and delegate as soon as you can, so that you can spend more of your limited time and energy on the things that matter.
Progress doesn’t come from doing more. It comes from focusing on the things that truly deserve your attention.
