E245: Top Summer Reads - Recharge and Refocus Your Legal Mind
Jul 09, 2025
Our tip today is simple: don’t forget to take a break. With that in mind, we’re sharing our favourite summer reads. Whether you're poolside, at the cottage, or simply enjoying a slower pace in the office, take a little time for yourself with this mix of thoughtful, inspiring, and just-for-fun reading.
Brooke Lively’s book, From Panic to Profits
A look at the 6 key numbers you need to track in your law firm. You don’t have to be an accountant to understand what your numbers are and what those numbers are telling you. This book gives you an easy-to-follow path to confidence about the financial health of your business.
Thomas Erikson’s Surrounded by Idiots
Erikson categorizes people using a 4-color scale and provides great tips for how to communicate with people based on where they fall on that scale. Are they goal-driven? Idea-oriented? Methodical? Conflict-Adverse…Although it’s not a book for lawyers per se, it’s a really useful approach that will help you in every interaction with clients, colleagues, friends, and family.
Alison Espach’s The Wedding People
Hands down one of the funniest books we’ve read…well…listened to, actually. We got this one as an audiobook. If you want clever writing and sharp observations about the human condition, you’ll love this!
Louise Ells' Notes Towards Recovery
Karen is a huge fan of short stories. Because they only require concentration for short bursts of time, they’re perfect for airports, beaches, and bedtime. Louise Ells does not disappoint. Each story is a perfect study of life, loss, and resilience.
And of course, The Power Zone Playbook for Lawyers. It’s our best-selling guide to getting out of the grind in your law practice, so you finally have the time to focus on what matters to you.
Grab your copy here and take your Power Zone with you this summer.
Whatever summer holds for you, we hope you find a moment to recharge, reflect, and maybe even reimagine how you work. Happy reading!
